How to make a six pack in the kitchen

Written on the 6 January 2016 by Studio Pilates

The way to gain the coveted six pack of abs is not just through doing millions of sit ups, six packs are instead, made mostly in the kitchen!

If you are reading this article, you will most likely be doing regular Studio Pilates® classes and so if you are doing three classes or more a week, for several weeks or more, and you are challenging yourself with your springs each time then you are definitely doing enough for the stomach muscles to be toning up and beginning to take shape and gaining some definition.

The only problem is that most of the time the coveted six packs that we have been busy sculpting by doing our Studio Pilates® classes are unfortunately covered with a layer of fat.

We can often feel the muscles underneath the layer of fat when we poke and prod them especially when flexing or tensing the stomach muscles, but if that layer of fat is too thick we won't be able to see it in the mirror no matter how rippling the muscles are underneath.

So you've got great muscle tone and definition in the abs from doing your regular Studio Pilates® classes, now in order to physically see these sculpted abs, your body fat level has to be quite low, which can take time to develop.

So the big question is, how do we lose that annoying layer of fat that is preventing us from achieving our first six pack since we were sixteen? Well, here is the secret guys..... six packs are made in the kitchen!

Let me explain, to lose fat and hopefully achieve that six pack, you have to control very closely what goes into your mouth.  Most of the time, what goes into your mouth is prepared in a kitchen right? So, this is where your biggest results will come from and is the key to truly sculpting your midsection.

Your diet will need to be high in protein and vegetables, very low in carbohydrates, while sugar and fat should be non existent. Protein will help you to build and tone the muscles, pretty much everything else will just slow down your results.

In addition to choosing what you eat, you have to examine you cooking methods and you will have to exclude all sugar, butter, oil, cheese and other high calorie foods that are used to add taste to your meals. Try using fresh herbs and spices to add extra flavour to your meals.

These types of foods are very high in calories, if you don't burn these calories off during your day they will be stored by the body overnight as fat.

In order to decrease the thickness of the layer of your body fat, you will need to burn more energy than you eat and drink in a day. Do this every single day over a long period of time to see results. On the other hand, your muscles will tone up rather quickly especially if you are doing your Studio Pilates® classes regularly and eating a diet high in protein. Protein is the building block of toned muscles and can be found mainly in lean meats, fish, legumes and eggs.

Any cardio activity that you add into your weekly routine will accelerate the burning of calories each day which is a good thing as it will get you to your six pack goal even faster.

So as you can see, what food and drinks you choose to put into your body has a MASSIVE affect on whether or not you see your six pack or whether it's hiding from view.

Take care in the kitchen with your food preparation and your selection of foods so YOU can see the results of your hard work - that six pack of abs!
