International 4 Day Matwork Course - Singapore 11-14 May 2017


In this course, you will learn about the anatomy of the body for Pilates and over 90 basic to intermediate Matwork exercises. This course combines an extensive online learning component, with 80 hours of pre-course learning through Studio Pilates' exclusive Online Training Centres. You will receive access to both our Anatomy and Matwork Training Centres, featuring digital manuals, workout downloads, and online educational videos.

This course also features a four day practical component. Day One will focus on your Anatomy study, revising everything you need to know about muscles, joints and bones in order to become a great Pilates instructor. Days Two-Four are then about refining the teachings and techniques of Pilates in a hands-on learning environment. You will revise the Matwork exercises in a workshop setting. You will also learn about spinal problems, posture, and core stability, Pilates for pregnancy, muscle imbalances and muscle recruitment/activation. At the end of the course, you will have the skills to use Pilates with PT clients for both rehab and toning, and also take a Pilates mat class in a large group setting.

Anatomy Learning Objectives:

  • Learn anatomical terminology
  • Learn about the Skeletal System including bone structure and function
  • Learn about joints and joint movement including intervertebral, shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, pelvis, knee, and ankle/foot joints
  • Learn about muscle structure and function
  • Learn about muscle levers and muscle terminology
  • Learn about muscles that move the body

Matwork Learning Objectives:

  • Learn over 90 basic-intermediate Pilates exercises
  • Learn about the history and basic principles of Pilates
  • Learn about common spinal injuries and using Pilates for rehabilitation
  • Learn about programming for athletes and advanced clients how to challenge your clients' core
  • Learn about correct muscle activation of the deep core stabilisers
  • Assessment and correction of poor movement patterns
  • Assessment of posture and core stability
  • Become familiar with the Studio Pilates cueing formula/methods of instruction, imagery, demonstration, voice projection and variation
  • Learn about pre/post pregnancy workouts and Women's Health related issues
  • Learn how to take a large group class safely and give different levels

Matwork Assessment:

  • Video submission of you instructing

Online Pre-Course Study:

  • 40 hours online Anatomy learning
  • 41 hours online Matwork learning

Practical Course Format (4 Days):

  • 1/2 day Anatomy tutorial
  • 3 1/2 day Matwork course
CECs:
  • 3 PDPs through Physical Activity Australia (AUS)
  • 13 CPDs through Exercise and Sports Science Australia (AUS)
  • 20 CPEs through Massage & Myotherapy Australia (AUS)**
  • 30 CECs through REPs (NZ)
  • 12.5 CEUs through AFAA (USA)
  • 1.9 CEUs through NASM (USA)
  • 3 PDPs through ACE (USA)
  • Health Practitioners - earn CPD hours through AHPRA (AUS) to maintain annual registration

* You must be a registered Group Exercise/ Gym Instructor in order to attain Fitness Australia CECs

** Note for MMA Members: If you hold a Certificate IV in Massage and are registered with MMA, you can claim the full 20 CPE points upon also completing the Studio Pilates Anatomy Course. Members with a Diploma of Massage are not required to complete the Anatomy Course as a prerequisite.
