Pilates Studios are the traditional way in which Pilates was operated. A Pilates Studio contains specific Pilates Equipment for the clients to work on, such as the reformer, trapeze table, wunda chair, Pilates ball, Pilates circle, arc barrel and ladder barrel. The equipment adds another dimension to the matwork exercises – it adds more resistance and therefore increased toning of the entire body. It works areas that can’t be reached with matwork exercises alone.
Clients usually undertake an individual induction session initially to determine what they need to work on and to develop a program for them. After this, clients will often go through their workout in a small group with a professional instructor taking them through their workouts each time. Because the studio sessions are personalised and tailored for each participant, fantastic results are achieved, and for this reason they are also great for rehabilitation.
How does this differ to mat classes?
Mat classes are usually a large group class that consists of a series of exercises performed on a mat. It is less specific to each client than the studio sessions, but is still a fantastic workout. Mat classes focus on the abdominal, buttock and inner thigh areas, and are not designed for injury rehabilitation.
