The course is similar to a university tutorial. You will be going over the bones, muscles and joints again in a workshop format. You will also have the chance to ask any questions about the Anatomy course content. There is no formal assessment on the face to face Anatomy Course, however the course facilitator will be informally assessing you based on your participation in the workshop.

Ultimately the Anatomy workshop is all about consolidating and revising your Anatomy knowledge in a practical environment. We hope you enjoy your online study and then attending practical workshop (either in person or via Zoom). If you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact our Instructor Support team!

How Will You Know if You’re Ready for the Practical ZOOM Workshop?

As you prepare for your course, you may be wondering if you are ready to attend the practical training! Essentially, you are ready to attend the practical course if you have worked through and completed all of the lessons in the online training centre. Keep in mind that a great deal of the learning is based on going back and re-watching the revision videos many times. If you have gone through all of the lessons online and revised the content for the required amount of time, you should have a solid understanding of the bones, muscles and joints and be ready to attend the practical course.

You can also test your muscle knowledge in the lesson called “Optional Study Resources”. This contains links to some Muscle Function Flash Cards which you can incorporate into your study and use to test yourself.

But ultimately, if you have worked through and completed all of the lessons in the Anatomy Online Training Centre, then you should be ready to attend the practical workshop.

How Are You Assessed?

You are assessed in this course via 4x online exams. There are three online exams which we call “pre-course exams” because you complete them before you attend the face to face course. There is one pre-course exam on bones, one on joints, and one focused on muscles.

The last online exam that you complete is called the “post-course exam” because you complete it after attending the face to face course. This exam covers the bones, muscles and joints, but is primarily focused on the muscles.

All of these online exams are multiple choice, are theory based and the passing mark is 80%. If you don’t pass the exams for any reason, simply go back and revise the study materials and then resit the exam when you are ready. Unfortunately you are not able to save the exam once you begin it, so make sure that you allocate enough time to complete the exam in one go. You can sit the exam multiple times and we always recommend taking a screenshot or photo of your results in the rare case of technological issues with the exam being sent through to us. It is hard to provide a rough estimate of how long it takes to complete the exams as everyone works through at their own speed. However, we recommend roughly allowing 20-45 minutes to complete each exam.

Once you have completed and passed all of the assessment and attended the face to face course, you can expect to receive your digital certificate within 2 weeks.

Anatomy is a bit different to our other courses in that it is more theory based and requires quite a bit of rote learning. Most people find the muscles section of the Anatomy Course the most challenging as it requires you to learn the Latin muscle names which can take a bit to get your head around!

Although learning Anatomy might not be as exciting as getting down and performing exercises, it is such a fundamental part of your knowledge as a Pilates instructor, so it’s worth sticking with and persevering!

If You Feel Like You’re Not Absorbing the Anatomy Study

If you feel like you are struggling with your Anatomy study, here are some tips to help –

1. Utilise the Revision Videos & Make Sure You Have Watched the Revision Videos for 5 hours each

The first tip is to utilise the revision videos as much as possible. You will find a revision video for the lessons on bones, joints and muscles. You should aim to watch these revision videos multiple times until you feel more comfortable with the content. For example, the bones revision video is only about 13 minutes long, however you should spend 5 hours re-watching this video and revising the related content in your manual. Because a lot of Anatomy is rote learning, it does require repetition and watching these revision videos over and over again. Most people feel like they are not absorbing the study because they have not completed the required amount of study or revised the revision videos enough times to fully learn the content. So keep going over the content – it takes time to make sense in your mind!

2. Download and Print the Muscle Flash Cards

Secondly, if you are struggling with the movements of the muscles, take a look in the online training centre lesson called “Optional Study Resources”. Here you will find some muscle movement flash cards to test your muscle knowledge.

3. Download an Anatomy App for a “Big Picture” View

Thirdly, if you are struggling with the context of how all the muscles and bones come together and would like a big picture view, you may be interested in downloading an Anatomy app. Anatomy apps are not a substitute to completing your study through the Anatomy Course online training centre, but they can be a useful visual reference as you complete your online learning. You can find a list of recommended apps in the “Optional Study Resources” lesson of the online training centre.

4. Test Your Knowledge with the Pre-Course Exams

Lastly, you can also test your Anatomy knowledge by completing the three pre-course exams on bones, joints and muscles. This can be a great way to identify gaps in your knowledge and see which sections you need to go back and revise. Don’t worry if you do not pass these exams, they are a great study tool also! Simply go back and revise the content and resit the exams when you feel ready.

5. Study in a Quiet, Focused Place

More than any other course, Anatomy requires focus and brain power. So make sure that you are studying in a quiet place where you can be focused. Try to study when you feel the most fresh – for example if you are not a night bird, don’t study late at night when it will be harder for you to absorb and remember the information. But on the flip side, don’t continually put off your study because you feel like you’re not fresh enough to complete the learning, otherwise you may feel overwhelmed by having to cram everything at the last minute and may not be able to remember everything! Instead, carve out some time each week to dedicate to your learning in a quiet place.

Not Sure if You’ll Be Ready in Time?

When you log into your MyPortal, you will see your course dates listed right at the top of your screen.

The great thing about Studio Pilates courses is that we allow you to change your course dates if there is an emergency and you are unable to attend! And you do this directly through your MyPortal.

When you log into your MyPortal, you will see your course dates listed right at the top of your screen. You will have a spot secured in these dates, so you will be expected to attend these specific dates. But in an emergency, if you can’t make your course dates, you can reschedule your course up to two (2) times, however there are fees to do this.

For more on rescheduling, click here.

What to Expect on the Practical ZOOM Workshop So what should you expect when you attend the practical Anatomy workshop?
