What was the catalyst that inspired you to buy a SP franchise?
I have always wanted to have my own business and since my first SP class, become a Pilates Instructor. After moving back to Australia from Singapore a year ago, buying an SP Franchise was the perfect blend of both instructing and business management. It just made complete sense and the timing was right, so I took the plunge!
What was your previous professional history prior to purchasing a franchise?
I have enjoyed a wonderful corporate career, spending most of my time as an Executive Assistant during which time I learnt how important it is to be organised, master time-management and also be across all areas of the business. I believe this has set me up with broad business management skills, in addition to my Nutrition and Exercise degree to build my new passion with Studio Pilates.
What was it about the SP franchise model that stood out against other Pilates franchises?
It was hands down the amazing support that HQ is able to provide the Franchisees. With guidance and support on HR, Marketing, Operations etc, I knew I was in safe hands with Studio Pilates. The Founders, Jade and Tanya Winter are also very hands-on and it is so obvious they are there because they want to change the way the world works out and believe in Pilates - not chasing money.
Do you have a passion for Pilates or was it something you saw more as a business investment?
Both. I most-importantly have a passion for Pilates and think that it is essential in ensuring you provide the best client experience, however it is also a great business investment, as Pilates really is the perfect long-term method exercise for almost everyone, every single day.
How did you find the process of opening a Studio Pilates Studio?
In one word - exciting! It was stress-free having the support of the Studio Pilates HQ. They had my back the entire process, and also ensured we made strategic decisions to be set up for success. There was a rollercoaster of emotions in the lead-up to launch, but that was all part of the fun and excitement of launching a wonderful business.
How soon were you cash-flow positive?
From day 1 we have been cash-flow positive!
What's your day-to-day involvement with SP like?
I am personally involved full-time at the moment, which is a mix between instructing and business management. Once we have a steady operating rhythm I can see a path to pull back slightly and let my wonderful team take more responsibility. However, still being brand new, I love being involved in all of the daily tasks and of course meeting all of our wonderful clients personally.
