Melbourne’s Trending Health Food Cafes

Matcha Mylkbar – St Kilda

Famous for their unique superfood lattes, shaded every colour of the rainbow.

You’ll find a common theme throughout the entire menu of this cafe, located just a stone’s throw from the beach – matcha!. Almost everything on the menu features antioxidant-packed matcha green tea as a star ingredient, or it’s dusted with it for the most Instagrammable brunch in town.

Matcha Mylkbar isn’t a new kid on the block, but this completely plant-based cafe is stronger than ever and the rush to get a table for brunch hasn’t slowed. Their new vegan set menu dinners have added a welcome addition to their offering, and kept them well ahead of the health food cafe game in Melbourne. Good luck trying to choose just one superfood latte to sip alongside your vegan eggs!

Serotonin – Burnley

Dog owners will love Serotonin, which encourages brunching with your four-legged friend in tow, even featuring a doggy courtyard and complimentary homemade canine treats. For the two-legged diners, this ethical, organic and plant-based cafe serves up delicious food with the intention of inducing the mood-boosting chemical, serotonin, in your brain – hence the inspo for the cafe’s name. If you’re not looking for breakfast, stop by and grab one of their delicious raw, vegan desserts and a barista brew.

This one ticks all the boxes, great food and drinks, awesome location and welcoming staff, so expect it to be your new fave too.

Laneway Greens – CBD

With three locations throughout the CBD, including the new Exhibition Street venue, Laneway Greens is well-loved amongst Melbourne foodies and health enthusiasts thanks to their amazing menu and wholefoods canteen set-up. The menu changes each every few months to feature the best produce of each season with ‘farm to lane’ values.

Happy Place – South Melbourne

Set amongst the bustle of the South Melbourne Market is Happy Place, the venture of best-selling author, nutritionist and health foodie, Lola Berry. This is the perfect spot to grab a nutritious smoothie after hitting the markets, or to devour an acai bowl after picking up your fresh groceries. With the mantra ‘happiness is real when shared’, this powerhouse cafe has an incredible ethos but you might find it a bit of a struggle to want to share the amazing food!

With a decor featuring healing crystals and a seasonal menu, this is one to add to the must-visit list.

Patch Cafe – Richmond

Nestled in this warehouse style building is a paleo paradise and a must try for anyone who loves brunch! Whilst the paleo lifestyle is inspired by a hunter-gatherer diet, eating here isn’t hard work and you’ll be pressed to find something on the menu that doesn’t appeal. All food is locally sourced, so the menu changes with the seasons (even if we do get all four in one day in Melbourne!). Whether savoury or sweet is your style, Patch always delivers a healthy, nutritious breakfast.
