WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVOURITE STUDIO PILATES COURSE TO COMPLETE?
Reformer Progressions was definitely my favourite course! Taking my instructing to that new level and being able to bring some extra challenges to my clients made it 100% worth it… though my clients may not agree when they had to start doing Teaser!
HOW HAVE YOU BEEN USING YOUR PILATES SKILLS SINCE COMPLETING YOUR INSTRUCTOR TRAINING?
Since completing my course, I have left my corporate job and opened my own studio. The freedom I have gained since completing the course has been life changing. It is amazing to do something you enjoy everyday.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR GREATEST CHALLENGE AS A PLATES INSTRUCTOR?
My greatest challenge has been starting my own business and being brave enough to take the leap and go out on my own.
HOW HAS COVID-19 CHANGED HOW YOU INSTRUCT?
I opened my studio right after the first lockdown in Brisbane and fortunately being in Queensland I have not been overly affected by Covid. When we did have snap lockdowns we incorporated online and outdoor lessons to keep our members moving.
WHAT IS THE ONE HEALTH OR FITNESS RELATED ITEM THAT YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT RIGHT NOW?
I can’t live without the reformer – my one true fitness love. Even if it is just for a stretch.
WHAT IS YOUR PERSONAL PILATES OR EXERCISE PHILOSOPHY?
Do what you love. Finding an exercise or movement that you love is the key to maintaining commitment. When we get busy its easy to let exercise fall to the wayside. I have so many clients who come to Pilates and say “oh I forgot how much I love it”… my advice: take time to think back to exercise you have enjoyed (it may even be a sport you loved as a kid) and try to make time to get back into it.
WHAT SONG OR PLAYLIST IS KEEPING YOU AND YOUR CLIENTS MOTIVATED IN CLASS RIGHT NOW?
We are Pop central… we love a Female Artist in studio from Beyoncé, to Taylor Swift to old school Britney and Christina we like to keep the girl power strong.
We love to finish off any session with a Spice Girls special.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE EXERCISE TO INSTRUCT RIGHT NOW AND WHY?
Feet in Straps is always a favourite to instruct purely from the happy client faces when you say they are going to to do it.
HOW DO YOU PRIORITISE OR FIND TOME FOR YOUR OWN PILATES PRACTICE?
I have taken to carving out time in my day for even a 15 minute play. I have made the choice that after my morning classes I won’t go home until I have had a little play on the reformer. I try and workout the same muscles I am teaching in class so by the end of the week the full body is done
WHAT IS THE GREATEST TIP YOU COULD GIVE ANOTHER PILATES INSTRUCTOR?
Go for it!
