If you are a qualified physiotherapist, your physiotherapy insurance should cover you to instruct Pilates, but it may be wise to check with them anyway.
For all other allied health professionals, check with your insurance body to check if your current insurance body covers you for Pilates.
If you are a Fitness Trainer with insurance through Fitness Australia, your Fitness Australia insurance will cover you to teach all of the exercises contained in courses which are Fitness Australia approved (attract CECs). If you complete courses which do not attract Fitness Australia CECs, you may need to obtain additional insurance to cover that additional repertoire of exercises. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to check what you are covered for.
If you are a Fitness Professional who is not a Fitness Australia Registered Exercise Professional (REPs), we recommend contacting your current insurance provider to check if you are covered to teach Pilates. If your insurance company does not cover you to teach Pilates exercises, refer to the section below for our recommended insurance company (JUA Underwriting).
Note: Fitness Australia approves the education delivered within the Scope of Practice for Registered Exercise Professionals and have allocated CECs accordingly to this program. Fitness Australia however doesn’t recognise the title of becoming a Pilates Instructor as referred to within this program. For example, Fitness Australia requires Personal Trainers who are a Registered Fitness Professionals (REPs) to refer to themselves as a “Personal Trainer who teaches Pilates” rather than a “Pilates instructor.”
Check with your relevant association to see if you are covered under your existing insurance to teach Pilates. If you are not covered, see the information below about obtaining additional coverage.
