Insurance FAQs

What level of cover do I need as an instructor?

It really comes down to you as there are many factors involved in how much cover you have as an instructor. Such factors include –

  • The number of classes which you teach each week (if you are only teaching 1 class every other week, your risk of an incident occuring may be less)
  • The types of clients you are taking for Pilates (for example, children and pregnant women are often considered higher risk clients and therefore, if taking these types of clients, you may wish to increase the amount of cover you have)
  • Whether your place of work has insurance which also covers you (some businesses will have their own insurance policy which covers the instructors working on the premises. If this is the case, it may mean that your own policy could be less)
  • If you are using any type of equipment in your classes (circles, bands, reformers, cadillacs, wunda chairs etc.) you may wish to increase your coverage

If you have any questions about the appropriate cover, please contact your insurance provider directly.

How much does insurance cost?

It depends on the insurance provider that you go with. Insurance is usually charged as an annual fee but many insurance providers allow monthly direct debits. For an accurate insurance quote, please contact one of the insurance providers listed above.

Do I need to change my insurance for each Pilates course I complete?

Yes, as soon as you complete and plan on instructing additional repertoire, you should inform your insurance provider of this change. For example, if you complete the Reformer Course and plan on instructing Reformer exercises, you will need to inform the insurance provider prior to instructing the new repertoire. It may be that your annual insurance price varies but please contact your insurance provider for more information.

First Aid Certificate

As a Pilates instructor, you should hold a current First Aid certificate in addition to your Pilates insurance.
