What has been your favourite Studio Pilates course to complete?
I really enjoyed the Wunda Chair Course. I find this piece of equipment amazing as it can work every little inch of the body!
James was my instructor for this course and he is a guru!
How have you been using your Pilates skills since completing your instructor training?
Yes I sure have! I have my own pilates studio where I use a combination of equipment! Reformer, Matwork, Wunda chair, spine corrector, Bosu, swiss ball and various other small equipment!
It’s the best job ever!
What has been your greatest challenge as a Pilates instructor?
My greatest challenge would be to keep it simple and don’t over think it.
Keep cueing clear and concise with not too many instructions. Go with your gut, be yourself and enjoy it!
How has COVID-19 changed how you instruct?
During 2020 I ran outdoor classes and Zoom.
It’s made me appreciate the value of face to face learning & highlighted just how amazing & important pilates is.
So many people were stuck behind a desk working from home, suffering from poor posture. Some felt lonely and isolated.
Pilates really helped them get through that difficult time.
It taught me versatility to have to teach very little or no equipment and patience when communication was difficult through a computer screen!
What is the one health or fitness related item that you can’t live without right now?
I can’t think of anything in particular but I do love my comfy leggings!
What is your personal Pilates or exercise philosophy?
If it was easy, everyone would do it.
That’s the same with Pilates and that why I love it.
What song or playlist is keeping you and your clients motivated in class right now?
Oh we love:
Feel Good 80’s
Chilled Classics for stretch classes!
What is your favourite exercise to instruct right now and why?
I love Flight [from the Matwork Course] because it works the abdominals, mid back muscles & triceps.
Most importantly I love how it challenges the client to keep their abdominal connection, shoulder girdle activation while burning the triceps!
It’s not easy!
How do you prioritise or find time for your own Pilates practice?
This is something I need to work on! I’m currently not practicing Pilates and it’s frustrating!
What is the greatest tip you could give another Pilates instructor?
Be yourself and listen to your clients. It’s important to show you care.
