How are you using your Pilates training?

I am working alongside my husband in his physiotherapy practice as we offer clients a range of services. My goal was to fill two night time classes per week (I live in a small country town and thought that would be a great turn out) I am now teaching 7 full classes per week with more to come!


What has been your greatest challenge as a Pilates instructor?

The biggest challenge I think is being present in the class and being able to see people who may be struggling or need more of a challenge before they really realise it themselves and then giving them options or programming accordingly. Also seeing postural imbalances and thinking on your feet to try and help correct them in the short time that you have.


What is the one fitness or health related item you can’t live without right now?

Kombucha! A fermented probiotic tea. I’m addicted.


What is your personal Pilates/exercise philosophy?

Physical fitness can neither be achieved by wishful thinking nor outright purchase – J. Pilates


What song or playlist is keeping you and your clients motivated in class right now?

Spotify is my friend! I’ve made a playlist that gets progressively more motivating as it goes on!


What is your favourite exercise to instruct right now and why?

I love instructing clams and getting my clients to feel for their glute activation, so many are often using the quad to lift the knee instead and when they activate the glute first and then lift there’s this light bulb moment on their face that I love to watch!


How do you prioritise or find time for your own Pilates practice?

I feel like I owe it to my clients to be the best at pilates that I can be, so I make it a priority most mornings before my 3 children are awake.


What is the greatest tip you could give another Pilates instructor?

Just be your authentic self. Everyone has their own style – find yours.


What does the rest of the year hold in store for you?

Even more classes opening up at Walkabout Physiotherapy Moora and hoping to travel to other regional centres in WA! Taking the love of pilates all over the country side.
