How are you using your Pilates training?

I teach 12 classes a week

What has been your greatest challenge as a Pilates instructor?

I guess being 61 years old, I want to look good and healthy to be able to inspire my students. It has been a great challenge since I have benefited the most. Even though I am not thin, I feel that I have a toned body and great posture.

What is the one fitness or health related item you can’t live without right now?

Pilates Circle. Very helpful for inner thighs and Pelvic Floor work.

What is your personal Pilates/exercise philosophy?

Form is more important than number of repetitions

What song or playlist is keeping you and your clients motivated in class right now?

I use R&B, my students enjoy the popular music and the slow beat.

What is your favourite exercise to instruct right now and why?

Clams. I remind them that it’s 80% core activation and 20% leg lift.

How do you prioritise or find time for your own Pilates practice?

I prepare my class routine for the week by doing my own practice. If an exercise is challenging, I will build my strength through my own practice until I’m able and confident to teach it.

What is the greatest tip you could give another Pilates instructor?

Be creative, look for new exercises. Students enjoy variety.

What does the rest of the year hold in store for you?

I am teaching another Pilates class this year. I would like to review my Anatomy knowledge.
