HOW ARE YOU USING YOUR PILATES TRAINING?
I use my Pilates training to educate my clients so they can get the best out of their workouts depending on their fitness goals.
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR GREATEST CHALLENGE AS A PILATES INSTRUCTOR?
My greatest challenge as an instructor would be wanting to make the exercise perfect. I’ve learned to always aim for progress, not perfection.
WHAT IS THE ONE FITNESS OR HEALTH RELATED ITEM YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT RIGHT NOW?
Not to sound biased, but I’d have to say a Reformer. Having my own injuries, I need to make sure that my muscles fire up correctly to make my day to day life of instructing easier and pain free.
WHAT IS YOUR PERSONAL PILATES/EXERCISE PHILOSOPHY?
Aim for progress not perfection. This philosophy can relate to instructing and training. Looking back when I was a client, I never thought I’d be teaching my own classes, let alone knowing how to co-ordinate Criss Cross. But slowly my progress became my obesession and I just wanted to learn as much as I could about Pilates.
WHAT SONG OR PLAYLIST IS KEEPING YOU AND YOUR CLIENTS MOTIVATED IN CLASS RIGHT NOW?
I’m loving the mix with “All Night Long” in the Studio Pilates studios, especially when it comes to any Glute work as it seems lift the energy.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE EXERCISE TO INSTRUCT RIGHT NOW AND WHY?
I love instructing Scooter (on the Reformer). Making small changes in the body position can make the biggest difference to get the best Glute activation.
HOW DO YOU PRIORITISE YOUR OWN PILATES PRACTICE?
I make sure I get in one to two Pilates workouts each day, as it helps align my body. I’ll do one in my break or after my shift.
WHAT IS THE GREATEST TIP YOU COULD GIVE ANOTHER PILATES INSTRUCTOR?
Trust yourself in what you would do. When I first started, I feared that clients wouldn’t enjoy my workouts, but once I just stepped back and thought “what do I do to get the best in this exercise”, it made my instructing flow.
WHAT DOES THE REST OF THE YEAR HOLD IN STORE FOR YOU?
This is a year of confidence and success. I would love to get more involved with Studio Pilates on the media side, as well as expanding my client base.
